Silver needle is the least processed tea in the world and the most demanding to make. Only the terminal bud is taken, before it opens, and only during a short spring window. Roughly thirty thousand buds go into a kilogram, all picked by hand.
After that, almost nothing happens to it. It is withered in the sun, moved to shade, and dried. No rolling, no oxidation step, no firing. Which means there is nowhere to hide a mistake.
Brew it gently and it will give you three or four steeps, each one sweeter than the last.
